The Enugu State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday, picketed the Trustfund Pensions Limited office over alleged refusal to allow their staff to join trade unions, general poor working conditions among others.
The picketing, which commenced as early 6:30a.m at the premises of the organization, located at Bank road, off Okpara Avenue, Enugu, south east Nigeria, prevented workers from gaining access into the building as the labour blocked access to the entrance.
The state chairman of NLC, Enugu, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo, who led union members, said the action followed engagements with the management of Trustfund Pensions Limited over a number of workers' rights violations which yielded scant fruits.
A circular signed by Chris Uyot, acting General Secretary of the NLC, and dated May 1, 2024, directed that Trustfund Enugu office be picketed by the state council of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Nwigbo said, "some of the issues under consideration include refusal of workers in Trustfund their rights to unionisation, illegal redundancy of 45 staff and general poor working conditions for the staff particularly the junior staff.
