A gale of defections has hit Labour Party (LP) as nineteen influential members of the party in Amala Ward, Udenu Local Government Area, yesterday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the forthcoming September 21, 2024 local council election in Enugu State.
The defectors, who were led by Hon. Kingsley Nnamdi, drummed support for the candidature of Aka Eze Aka, who is the chairmanship candidate of the PDP in the Sept .21, 2024 local government elections in Udenu, LGA.
The defection of the LP members into PDP was consequent upon what they cited as a desire for better representation and a more aligned vision for the future.
The leader of the group, Hon. Kingsley Nnamdi, happens to be the Labour Party Amala Coordinator for Udenu Obidients Movement For Good Governance (UOMGG). This massive exodus has dealt a big blow to the Labour Party stronghold in Udenu Local Government.
According to Hon. Nnamdi "We have lost faith in Labour Party's ability to deliver on its promises at the party level and we believe that PDP have the leadership and structure to drive meaningful change.
The defectors cited reasons for leaving, e.g., lack of internal democracy, poor leadership, etc.. They expressed confidence in PDP 's ability to address these concerns and provide a more inclusive and progressive platform.
One of the chieftains of Labour Party in Obollo-Etiti ward Pharm . Ogbuishi ( OTIKA) has this to say after the news broke out "The gospel truth is that Labour Party Leadership in Udenu played with supporters feelings in a very terrible manner. They insulted and throw away all the foot soldiers they have in the name of selfish internal party politics of who control the structure.
"A structure that has not been built firm and a lot of gang up causing confusion. When we were there, we warned the so called party cabals to listen to the voice of the supporters through internal party democracy leadership. But unfortunately, the advise from various group were taken for granted. Internal party crises and lack of party democracy kills any political group more than cancer. There is an adage that said, "if they pursue you from your father's place run to your mother's place".
"I am not surprised a lot of people are DECAMPING from LP to PDP. More still on the pipeline of DECAMPING till the party is left with the cabals alone. Most of them don't understand that OBIDIENT MOVEMENT IS BEYOND ANY POLITICAL PARTY.
"Excellency is the watch word. we have found one in PDP through Hon. Aka Eze Aka and we will support him because he is Good , competent and capable.
"All our polling units SHALL BE DELIVERED 100 PERCENT FOR AKA EZE AKA and PDP. we want a better society and leadership."he said.
