The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI), Enugu, Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke, says that a total of 12 students from different faculties in the institution graduated with First Class this year.
Anieke disclosed this on Wednesday in Enugu during a world press briefing ahead of the university's 11th Convocation scheduled for Nov.18.
According to him, a total of 404 graduates of the university will receive their certificates during the convocation.
Giving the breakdown of the results, the VC explained that while 12 would receive First Class Honours, 138 would receive Second Class Upper Division, and 220 Second Class Lower Division certificates.
He added that 34 got Third Class, while 46 who graduated from its postgraduate programmes would equally receive their certificates.
Anieke explained that Somtochukwu Obi, who he described as smart girl, has emerged as the overall best graduating student from Accounting Department in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences.
He said that the university had many fresh narratives this year to tell, adding that the main campus of the institution was now active with the office of the Vice Chancellor and the College of Medicine now fully functional.
Anieke further disclosed that the university's School of Nursing would soon take off, adding that the institution's bakery had commenced full operations.
"One of the narratives is the building of one of the biggest oxygen plants in the Southeast, where the school will be supplying oxygen to hospitals in the zone, as well as Nigeria, which has commenced at the main campus of the university.
“The university was ranked the 5th best private university in Nigeria, and later became the 3rd best in July, and will soon emerge the best in the country," he said.
Another narratives, he said, was the admission of its law students into the Nigerian Law school.
He further said that the DNA Learning Centre located in the main campus of the institution had started training scientists in Ghana and other African countries.
“A student of our university emerged the best in oral presentation competition held in the United States of America.
"We are collaborating with 90 universities in different parts of the world, while over 100 graduates of our university are doing exceedingly well in various parts of the world," Anieke added.
