The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Enugu State Council has directed its members to ensure compliance with the national directive for an indefinite strike in the country.
The council at the end of its State Administrative Council, (SAC) meeting held on Friday said the meeting was convened to ensure that workers withdraw their services across the state from Tuesday night.
Addressing newsmen in Enugu, the NLC Chairman, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo, said that the workers would not allow themselves to be deceived any longer, and would take back the country.
He said nothing would stop the strike unless otherwise directed by the national body, noting that Nigerian workers were disenchanted with the Government.
"We're going to join other Nigerians to say no to this act of wickedness being meted out to Nigerian citizens. We cannot continue this way, we must take back the country.
"On 3rd, if you are in the hospital, judiciary, parliament, civil service, any union, you must down tools. The road transport workers, every aspect of this economy must be put in a cooler until we know where we're going to.
"Therefore, I'm praying to leaders of the affiliate union, as soon as we are done with this meeting, you go and continue your mobilization. Like I said, this one is not moving around the streets, we're going to stay at home until we're directed otherwise.
"So, if you leave this meeting, go back to your union and ensure that the directive of the national is followed to the letter. This indefinite strike must succeed, and we must take back our country," Nwigbo stated.
Recall that the National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC and TUC had earlier announced Tuesday, 3rd October, 2023 for the commencement of an indefinite strike nationwide.
The union first observed a two-day nationwide warning strike on September 5 and 6 to show its readiness for the indefinite strike.
