Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, has promised to cleanup Upper Iweka of touts and illegal structures.
Soludo gave the assurance when he visited the location.
The Governor who asked those who do not have business in the area to leave, said that government want to bring sanity to the area.
He also warned that motor parks who do not obey rules will be shut down.
The governor warned that any garage that does not comply with the directive will be locked up, assuring that Upper Iweka will no longer be a den for touts and criminals.
According to him, part of the rules is that motor parks in Upper Iweka must be gated with all vehicles loading within their respective premises, so that the pedestrian way can be brought back.
The Governor observed that the disorderliness and lawlessness in Onitsha was driving away investors who intend to invest their business in the state and warned criminal elements perpetrating illegality and criminality in the state to leave or face the full weight of the law.
He pointed out that street lights, security cameras and other facilities will be mounted at the location, asking those who are trading on the roads to vacate to Ọdụ Ụgbọ and another location at Ogbaru.
“If you must remain in Anambra, you must be gainfully employed. If you are jobless, enrol in the one youth two skills to be empowered. Those who completed the pilot phase will be empowered very soon”, he added.
The Governor promised that the ongoing road construction from Moore street through Ochanja, to Upper Iweka down to Owerri road will be completed with road markings and revealed that his administration is setting up a special task force to deal with touting and pickpocketing.
