Enugu State Government on Monday said it had approved the construction of a 5-Star hotel with 380 rooms, at the International Conference Center (ICC) premises, Independence layout Enugu.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji, announced this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Enugu.
The Commissioner said the hotel had been awarded to China Construction and Communication Company (CCCC) and was expected to be completed in 12 months.
Speaking on roads construction, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr Gerald Otiji, said some contractors had issues with purchasing stones from Ebonyi state and that resulted in a slow pace of work.
Also speaking on the construction of a 5 star hotel, the commissioner for culture and tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke said the hotel would have world class amenities, 380 rooms, swimming pool, restaurant, dining, gaming centers among others which in turn, would boost the economy of Enugu state as the home of Ndi Igbo.
On the state government's plans for Nike Lake resort, Dame Mmadueke said Nike Lake resort would be upgraded to a comfortable 3- star hotel, adding that the state needs about 5,000 keys (hotel rooms) and has not gotten up to 2,000.
On Agriculture, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Patrick Ubru said that the State Executive Council also approved the investment and 60% of the United Palm Produce Limited (UPPL) which is a state property in three locations, at Ugwuoba in Oji-River Local a Government Area, Mkpologu, Umulokpa in Uzo-Uwani and Ibite-Olo in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
Ubru said the plantation covers 7000 hectares of Palm, adding that the state government was bringing 60% and the investors would bring 22 billion naira in upgrading the facility to a world class with the asset totalling about 100 Billion Naira.
The commissioner further said plans were underway to revitalize cashew plantation, stating that about 563 hectares of land covered by cashew belongs to the state government.
He added that the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah had given an approval to develop Cocoa plantation, as well as cassava production.
On his part, the commissioner for Transport, Dr Obi Ozor said the Governor had started earnestly on transport infrastructure projects (TIP) initiative that covers the Enugu Central station which is located opposite Holy Ghost, Gariki Central station, Abakpa centra station and Nsukka Central station.
Dr Ozor said the construction of the Central stations was aimed at bringing affordable transport systems in the state, adding that the government had promised to complete the project within 12 months.
