The Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI), Enugu through its Directorate of Entrepreneurship (DOE), has successfully secured 300, 000 Euros grant for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), on entrepreneurship.
The grant was attracted by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development and facilitated through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers.
Mr Christopher Uwakwe, the GOUNI DOE, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Enugu.
While commending the achievement, Uwakwe said the grant to the University’s DOE was in recognition of their joint innovative projects on SDG with the Leuphana University of Luneburg, Germany and Mount Kenya University, Kenya.
He said the grant would be implemented across three years from 2023 – 2026, adding that it would enable the DOE to initiate groundbreaking entrepreneurship projects using the Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion Sustainability (STEP S).
“Specifically, the SDG- Partnerships project will be ecologically friendly, socially responsible and economically profitable; and will align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Our primary focus on the SDG-Partnership Project in the next 3 years will be to develop the STEP Sustainability curriculum for implementation at the secondary and high school level in Nigeria.
“Together with other partners on the project, a robust and comprehensive sustainable entrepreneurship curriculum will be developed across all levels of education from primary, secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate for the attainment of the SDG vision in 2030,” he said.
The director stressed that the grant exemplified GOUNI unwavering dedication to spearhead transformative initiatives and serves as a testament to the Directorate’s unwavering commitment to fostering sustainable entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
This, he said, was aimed at nurturing entrepreneurial ventures while prioritizing social and environmental impact for the sustainable development in the communities.
‘GOUNI remains steadfast in its commitment to academic excellence and societal impact and the grant award underscores the University’s position as a catalyst for sustainable development through education and entrepreneurship,” he explained.
