Police in Enugu say it arrested 92 suspects for various crimes.
The state's commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, made this known in Enugu on Tuesday, while reviewing the activities of the command within one month of his assumption of duty.
Uzuegbu, said the suspects were arrested for offences ranging from murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism.
The exhibits recovered from the suspects included: four AK-47 rifles, 66 firearms of different calibres, 333 live ammunition of different calibres, 25 vehicles and other incriminating items.
The Police Commissioner attributed the success recorded within one month of his assumption of duty in Enugu, to application of the right policing strategies.
Uzuegbu said new strategies were devised to tackle existing and emerging security challenges in the state.
He said that these strategies were subsumed in his grassroots-driven, proactive, people-oriented and problem-solving policing thrust, which is in line with the policing vision and mission of the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.
According to him, I have met and interacted with critical security stakeholders, including local government chairmen, traditional rulers, heads of other security agencies and many others, on the best ways to collectively tackle security challenges in the state.
He said: "These engagements, I must tell you, have started paying off as we are making remarkable progress in tackling violent crimes of kidnapping, armed robbery and the criminal activities of subversive criminals.
"It is a known fact that it is humanly impossible to totally eliminate crimes in human society.
"However, I want to assure the good people of Enugu State and visitors that we remain committed to ensuring that maximum security and tranquility are maintained in the state.
"I want to state without ambiguity that negative insinuations on the security situations in Enugu State are false and unfounded. It amounts to making a mountain out of a molehill.
"I, therefore, make bold to say that the state remains peaceful and a safe haven for visitors and investors to come and meaningfully carry out their lawful businesses."
Uzuegbu expressed gratitude to Gov. Peter Mbah, for the support and encouragement he had been giving the command since his assumption of duty about a month ago.
The CP noted that the establishment of the Distress Response Squad (DRS) was one of the governor's key operational supports to the police in the state.

Posted on Sep 07, 2024 at 01:48 PMEthical Leadership Centre, Enugu recognising visionary leadership is certainly a milestone towards 'making excellence the norm'. Big thanks to Chief Ben Etiaba for his tireless effort to improve our society and it's pillars.
Posted on Sep 10, 2024 at 09:51 AMYes Rangers! Our darling team was the hope of everyone across the niger to get thrilled and be happy. Rangers was the binding wire that bound the faith of the IGBO MAN together. Because the Igbos does not believe in anybody, rather the Igbo-man believes in self and God. He believes in what he can do for himself and others. Otherwise, how could a people in a war situation be cut off from outside world, they were not getting relief materials from the world bodies, no ammunition and the rest, and things got most trying and difficult. But in such horrible state of life, the IGBO-MAN produce the great bomb fondly called (Ojukwu bucket or Ogbunigwe) that destroys and kills in multiple folds, produced fighter jets which they used during the war, the Igbo-man produced his own fuel both for aviation and automotive uses. The Igbo-man started live again after the war with just twenty pounds only and excelled beyond imagination. Rangers FC was a reincarnated spirit of Igbo-man, that of course was the reason Rangers took over the football sphere in Nigeria shortly after it was founded in early 70's. Well let me come back before I go adrift Rangers International FC. I appreciate my brother Chief Ben Etiaba "Ifennia" founder Ethical Leadership Center Enugu, for the good job he is doing , especially in fishing out our men and women of substance who has paid their dues in their different callings and honouring them duly. Finally, my Congratulations goes to Dr. Joseph Ugboaja the Chief Medical Director Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi for his milestone achievement so far at NAUTH. I also congratulate the young enterprising Director of Rangers management board chief Ugboaku for his visionary leadership and achievements. God bless you all, and let the flame keep burning!
