No fewer than 14 communities in Udi Council Areas of Enugu State have honoured a renowned philanthropist, Chief Christian Nganga with Chieftaincy Title for his services to humanity.
The communities conferred Nganga with the chieftaincy title of “Ugwunye-Ezedike one of Enugu State” at the palace of the Traditional Ruler of Nike Kingdom in Enugu East Council Area, HRM Julius Nnaji.
He was given the title for his community development projects and empowerment programmes.
The communities were that conferred the tittle on him are; Amofia Affa, Amozalla Affa, Amaokwu Affa, Affa, Oghu, Ibute Egede, Egede, Uwani Umoka, Umuoka, Amakwo Eke, Eke, Akpakwume, Ibute-Nze and Ezinze in Udi Council Area Enugu State.
Nganga who hailed from Egede community has been helping the communities in providing street lights, erecting security tower along Eke to Nze road, payment of West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees and award of scholarships to indigent students in Egede.
Others are distribution of motorcycles to unemployed youths and security men, rehabilitation of Egede roads, building of houses for widows and many others.
Performing the coronation, Igwe Nnaji, said the committee selected from the 14 communities pleaded with him to help bestow the honour to Nganga, adding that he welcomed the idea.
While describing Nganga as a ‘good man’ the royal father said he does not confer chieftaincy title to anyhow person or someone with questionable character.
“The person must be scrutinized to ascertain his integrity and sources of his wealth. Chief Nganga deserved the honour due his track record and service to mankind.
Nnaji called Enugu people to emulate Nganga’s lifestyle to move the state to a greater height.
Speaking also, the Coordinator, Ugwunye-Ezedike Towns Unity Forum, made up of President Generals and Secretaries from the 14 communities, Mr Victor Uchedienyi, said the communities deemed it fit to honour Nganga whom he described as the hero of their time.
“High Chief Nganga is a generational icon for security, philanthropy and community development,” he said.
Responding, Nganga, a businessman expressed satisfaction that the communities found him worthy to be honoured and Nnaji accepting to be the one to coronate him.
“I believe the heaven we are talking about is in this world. I like touching peoples’ lives so that at the end of my stay, I will give God account of my stewardship.
“I can’t even remember most of the things I did and how they are keeping records of them. I was doing them without expecting anything from anybody.
“This particular chieftaincy came to me as a surprise because I was in America when they called to inform me about it. I almost rejected it. I4 communities to honour you is not a play.
“I feel great and it will spur me to do more but I am not doing it because of chieftaincy but because I want to help others,” Nganga said.
On why they went to Nike for the chieftaincy title, he explained that Nike, Affa and Egede communities were from same mother, adding Nike was the first son.
“This is why you see us go to Nike for the title. I just gone to my elder brother at Nike to bless me,” he added.
He stressed that through his Aguneche Ibe Foundation, he had empowered youths from the communities, saying he had requested to partner Enugu Government on youth empowerment and others.
